Dreams of the Sea Chapter 5

Subaru:
Ah, it’s been a really fun day today.
Not only did we get the special prize, we saw a whale too~
If I hasn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t be able to fully comprehend that a whale is~ so~ big.
Hokuto:
You sure was excited, if we hadn’t stopped you, you would’ve jumped overboard to pet that whale.
Subaru:
Ahaha, because it was really amazing, so I leaned that far unconsciously.
Makoto:
Here, Hidaka-kun, Akehoshi-kun. It’s the souvenir I got from this morning, let’s share.
Eh? Isara-kun seems to have fallen asleep already.
Hokuto:
Looks like he had lots of fun today, but he’ll catch a cold if he sleeps like this.
I’ll go tuck him in, you guys should go to sleep soon.
Subaru:
But I’m not sleepy yet, Hokke. But Sari is sleeping already, it’d be mean to make too much noise…
How about we tell ghost stories next, Hokke.
I am really looking forward to Hokke’s ghost stories.
Makoto:
Yeah, to be honest, I want to see Hidaka-kun telling stories too.
Hokuto:
Seeing as you guys are so excited, I guess I could tell you one. This might not be a ghost story like you guys wanted, it’s just a supernatural and strange story.
Subaru:
Okie, okie, Hokke’s storytelling is next. Let’s huddle together so we can listen to him.
Makoto:
Okay, I’ll sit next to Akehoshi-kun.

Hokuto:
Now then, sit properly and keep quiet.
This is something I heard from the theater club. I hear it’s based on a true story.
The story happens in a village…
The winter that year was especially cold, and it was snowing really hard, a young boy was wandering the mountains all on his own.
Subaru:
Gulp.
Hokuto:
That child never had any friends ever since he was young and he was often bullied by the other kids of the same age, that’s why he was always by his lonesome.
At that moment, the boy heard a voice from behind, “Oh, why are you playing all alone in the mountains?”
Subaru:
Don’t answer, something will happen if he does that…(whispers)
Hokuto:
The boy looked behind and found a white haired girl talking to him. The boy answered, “It’s snowing so heavily, won’t your parents worry if you’re in the mountains? You should hurry home.”
The girl laughed and said, “Ahaha, I should be the one saying that, if your playing in the snow, your parents will be worried.”
“You should be from the nearby village right? Come, I’ll take you home.” The girl took the boys hand, and the two headed towards the village together.
Subaru:
(Is the boy going to lead the ghost straight to the village?)
Hokuto:
When they reached the village the girl said, “It’s your village up ahead right? Hurry back home.” The boy took one look at the village and when he turned back to the girl again, she had disappeared.
Afterwards, the boy began to search for the girl. He found out that he could only meet the girl when it snowed. However, it was his first friend, so he didn’t give it much thought.
He and the girl spent days playing in the snow and talking.
Not long later, the boy left the village. He moved somewhere else with his parents and began school there.
Over time, the boy grew and he eventually met new friends, but he never forgot about the girl.
He didn’t know if the girl would forgive him because he didn’t meet her, didn’t tell her before he left.
Every winter, he thought of her.
At last, the boy grew into a man. He stood by the railings covered in snow and murmured, “Where are you? Even though we’ve never told each other our names, but we were still friends.”
“I don’t know if you’re still in the village or not, perhaps I should go back, if I see you, maybe I could…”
At that moment, the man found a single glove hanging on the railings, it was the same as the one he gifted to the girl when he was young.
When the man saw the gloved, he smiled and said, “See, I have lots of friends now, I really want to tell you everything that’s happened to me.”
And the girl who stood next to the boy was crying, “Actually...I was always watching, even if you couldn’t see me, but I was always watching you…”
Subaru:
The girl was some kind of spirit and she had always wanted to return the boy’s feelings hadn’t she?
Hokuto:
Akehoshi, calm down! Don’t push me!

Hokuto:
Akehoshi, wake up, don’t sleep on your desk, you’ll get a cold.
Subaru:
Yaaawn…
Huh? Hokke? Your story still hasn’t ended, hurry up and finish it~☆
Hokuto:
Akehoshi, what’s the matter with you, why are you suddenly asking me to tell you a story!
Subaru:
Nooo, you have to finish the story, otherwise I won’t let you go!
Hokuto:
What is happening!
